Dion Seeling - Artist

Profile

At the age of 18 I was young strong and fit, my goal in life was to play professional rugby for New Zealand but on a Saturday afternoon in 1995 that dream came to a crashing halt when I fractured my neck in a rugby game at the tauranga domain.

Art for me started as a way to fill in my days with something to do, but the more time I put into art it quickly became my passion and my new goal in life.

My Inspiration for art comes from three areas, maori design, the maori warrior and the beauty of women. A maori theme seems to naturally find its way into my artwork when painting and designing.

When doing portraits I like to use photos to get the best likeness but a lot of the finished product is artistic freedom. I like to paint women on their own, I try to capture their beauty and softness but when it comes to painting men I try to bring out the warrior in them strong and powerful. I love the use of colour and a lot of it I’m not sure why that’s just how it happens
